Benefits of Atlanta Yoga Nidra

Life is fast-paced and stressful. It can be hard to unwind and allow your mind to rejuvenate through rest. If you find it’s hard to sleep, or you continuously feel stretched thin, then Atlanta Yoga Nidra is what you need. The ancient practice of the Yogi utilized this form of quiet meditation to experience deep relaxation. Some of the benefits of Atlanta Yoga Nidra include:

  • Find rest and calm while staying awake
  • Discover deeper self-awareness
  • Access heightened creativity and knowledge
  • Explore a state of dreaming wakefulness
  • Rejuvenate with the benefits of sleep

With Atlanta Yoga Nidra, we help you find a place of complete relaxation without actually going to sleep. Our instructors will take you to a place between the conscious and subconscious through guided meditation.

What is Yoga Nidra?

Unlike more popular yoga forms introduced into today’s fitness world, Yoga Nidra requires minimal movement and no flexibility. The practice is also known as “Yogic sleep” or “effortless relaxation.”

Yoga Nidra was created in ancient India, dating back as far as 1000 B.C. through spoken tradition. Writings that date as far back as 700 B.C. and are grounded in the Sankhya philosophy include Yoga practice. This system held that there is a witness (Purusha) and that being witnessed (Prakriti). To have a sense of calmness and understanding, the witness needed to understand its place within reality. All thoughts, feelings, and objects are separate from us, and Sankhya philosophy teaches that understanding this dualism is a significant part of understanding who we are.

Through mindfulness of your life, you learn how to act from reflection and not a place of reaction.

The Benefits of Yoga Nidra

One of the most significant benefits of Yoga Nidra practice is the full relaxation you can experience. Staying in a state of stress and tension is incredibly hard on your body. Most of us experience high-stress levels from our jobs, family, responsibilities, bills, and other areas of everyday life. The current climate of negative news cycles and the worldwide health crisis has added to that list of stressors.

  • Gain a clear understanding of life
  • Reduce the stressors impacting you
  • Allow your body a chance to rejuvenate
  • Give your mind a break from racing
  • Slow your heartbeat and breathing

With Yoga Nidra, you can step outside of your perspective and experience, looking at life as a witness and not a pawn on the board. Rather than feeling stuck amid chaos, you feel as though you are merely witnessing what is. You gain a new perspective that helps you manage your responses in a much more thoughtful and purposeful way.

But, Yoga Nidra also helps your body benefit from that deep relaxation.

Your body needs sleep, or it struggles to function. Someone who is sleep-deprived will have the same symptoms as they would with a high blood alcohol count. Essentially, lacking sleep is similar to trying to operate while drunk. You are sluggish and bogged down. Your body cannot alleviate the toxin buildup during your waking hours, and it is eliminated while you sleep.

Yoga Nidra allows you to experience the rest of sleep that will restore your mind and body.

Incorporate Yoga Nidra into Your Daily Life

It’s effortless to incorporate Yoga Nidra into your busy lifestyle. It can be challenging to stop and practice seated meditation. If you’ve ever tried to stop and practice mindfulness on your own, you may think meditation isn’t for you. But, Yoga Nidra is guided so you can follow along with the voice in the room. There is no blank wall or heavy silence that makes you feel bored or agitated.

Instead, you are asked to lay down in a comfortable position and asked to create an intention for your practice.

For the 30-45 minute session, you will be asked to practice self-awareness and follow the voice of your guide through a series of mental experiences.

The gentle practice of Yoga Nidra isn’t dull or frustrating, just relaxing.
